My Year as an Intern

My year as an intern has been great, I have learned so many things and I have had so much fun. I have also had some ups and downs, but I'm glad it has been more ups than downs. I can remember at the beginning of the year I was a little nervous about being in a classroom where at one point I was going to be the teacher for a couple of minutes. Seeing all the kids having fun while learning made me realize that helping them was what I wanted to do. When I finally started doing more things like dancing, reading, and talking with the kids I realized that this was going to be fun. Some of my downs I had was when I thought I wasn't taking the time I needed to do more things that involved the class. I think I could've been more involved.
I think I started feeling my nausea when I realized that the end of the year was coming. I was excited to get out of school but I wasn't too excited about leaving my internship classroom. I started feeling sad about not having the opportunity to go into that classroom where everybody was happy to be in. I wasn't going to have the chance to dance and sing with all the kids and see them getting better at reading and writing. I learned that teachers can't get too attached to students because once the end of the year comes it will all be over and new students will come to start a new year again.
I had a lot of elations this year, one of them was when I thought my first lesson. I was really nervous about how the students were going to react when they saw I was teaching them a new lesson instead of their teacher. When I started reading the book and I saw that they were actually interested in it all my bad feeling went. I also loved how they were reading some of the lines along with me. The activity that followed was a little messy but the kids were able to handle it and I was able to keep control of everybody, that made feel really good.
After all the things I have experienced while being an intern, I have learned that being a teacher is sometimes hard and frustrating but this is what I want to do when I grow up. There is only one thing that I wish I could've done different, that is to not be as shy as I was the first couple of days I was in the classroom.

High School Teacher Creates New Educational App

The New Educational App would be very helpful for those of us who are always looking at teacher's notes. This app would help us have access to notes and it would even allow us to make our own notes on the side, in case we need different word to understand.

I have never really thought about making an app, but know that I think about it it would be a very good idea. If I ever did get to  make an app it would be something that my kindergarten class could use. I think I would use the app to help the students read better, it would include different books and some activities after. This will help them when practicing their reading and they could have access to them anywhere if they have an iPad, especially during summer since most student don't practice during this time of the year.

The Ron Clark Story

In my opinion the three most important rules in Mr. Clark's classroom were:
  • We are family- I loved the fact he tried to make his students feel like at home while they were in school learning.
  •  Respond to an adult when spoken to- Students have to understand that EVERYBODY deserves to be respected and responded to, especially adults.
  • Do not ask for a reward.- Children need to understand that they will not get a reward every time they do something right. A reward might be receiving a "Good job" or anything similar.
"The Essential 55"

Two rules that I will have in my future classroom will be:
  • Make sure you keep your area clean after getting your work done, clean up after yourselves
  • Respect yourself and others.

The Advantages of Technology in the Classroom

The author, Eric Schriener, talks about five ways that help students do better in school. What I have read about all five of these ways are important and have helped a lot of people I know in different ways

    • Accessing Information- This has helped me a lot during high school, and I'm sure it will help me even after school. I feel like having access to information through internet makes things easier for me, and it can also save me more time which is what i like the most.
    • Editing of Written Works- Every time I have a chance I use technology to check my work. This has helped me a lot because I don't have to worry about having misspelled words, so that helps me get better grades on my work.
    • Providing Supplementary Information
    • Communicating
    • Motivating Students
Another way  technology can help us students prepare for our future is the fact that now days we are very used to listening to music or using cellphones for most part of the day. For some of us music helps us concentrate and do better on our work. We could also involve into our lessons music, movies, or anything else that has to do with  technology.

    My Involvement in TAFE

I know that during the TAFE state conference some of my classmates participated in different competitions, workshops and other activities. This school year I didn't really get involved in any TAFE activity but I wish I had made better decisions as to getting involved. If I had a new opportunity to get involved in all the activities TAFE offers I would certainly take them and get involved. Since my schedule for next year doesn't allow me to take Education and Training class again I will think about becoming a student assistant and try to do all the stuff I didn't get to do this year.

    Who is Stacey Bess?

Stacey Bess is a teacher that had to go through a lot in her first teaching assignment. She started teaching at The School with No Name, located in a small shed behind a community homeless shelter. She taught Kindergarten through sixth grade to children with no homes. Stacey can remember many times having frightened children tucked into bed with her in the middle of the night. Nobody Don't Love Nobody is a book written based on her story. The book also inspired the Hallmark Hall of fame movie "Beyond the Blackboard." Stacey has been through so many challenges that I feel I wouldn't be able to do as good as she has done. I'm happy to know that there are still teachers that are willing to help the poor as much as she did.

    Bullying in School

Bullying can occur anywhere, not only in schools. There is one main type of bullying that in my opinion is the ones that happen the most. I have seen the shy, quite person that gets bullied for being a “nerd” and good student. I think that in BISD there is a bullying problem with bullying, it’s just that sometimes students and faculty don’t realize it.

I have seen students being bullied at school; in fact I have been bullied before. At that time I didn’t realized I was being bullied but now that I know more about the subject I know that should’ve let an adult know about it. That’s why in my opinion teachers should try to make all their students get along among each other to prevent bullying.
